Now at some Asian markets in DFW, including Super H-Mart: US-grown Hami melons.

Superbly sweet.

yeah Ranch 99 had samples Monday, it was pretty good. Sweeter than a canteloupe although a little umm lighter(?) so I don't know if I'd say I necessarily prefer it, but I will probably buy one.

Another find, albeit not necessarily a "Summer" food...

At the new 99 Ranch, Silkie chicken, expensive at about $5/lb. for half birds.
Already had some nagaimo/huaishan at home, so it'll be off to the store for some organic Goji berries (worried about the pesticide-laden versions from some sources), natsume, dates, ginger, and maybe a little turmeric, galangal, or ginseng, and I will be anticipating the results of the braise...it's been a loooong time since I've had this... :)
